Responsible Tourism
Preserving our Environment at Castlepoint Beach
We are committed to protecting and preserving our environment at Castlepoint Beach. We incorporate the Māori principles of Manaakitanga and Kaitiakitanga into our actions to ensure we are both guarding and caring for our land, and providing fantastic New Zealand hospitality. These values extend to how we support our community through sponsoring local events and volunteer groups.
Kaitiakitanga: Means guardianship, care and protection. It provides a basis to our approach for sustainably managing what we have and building an environment for current and future generations.
Manaakitanga: Implies a reciprocal responsibility upon a host, and an invitation to a visitor to experience the very best we have to offer. This reflects our intention to move forward together, based on a shared and uniquely New Zealand approach.
What We're Doing
- Energy & Water: Installing devices to reduce electricity and water use
- Recycling: Waste management stations and green recycling bins to encourage responsible disposal
- Environmental: Tree planting programme both within the park and on surrounding hills
What You Can Do
- Energy & Water: Turn off unused lights and electrical appliances, line dry and re-use towels, close doors in cold weather to keep heat in, limit shower time.
- Recycling: Sort rubbish correctly. Leave unwanted magazines and books for others to enjoy.
- Environmental: Look after trees and gardens in our holiday park and Castlepoint Reserve. Please do not ride motorcycles or other vehicles on the sand dunes. Do not remove fossils from the reserve.
