Exploring Castlepoint on foot is one of the very best ways to soak up the magic of our coastline. With everything from short scenic strolls to multi-day adventures, there’s something for every fitness level and holidaymaker.

Lighthouse Walk

20-30 minutes return

A classic Castlepoint experience and an absolute must-do for anyone visiting the area. This easy, family-friendly walk leads you up to the iconic lighthouse, perched on a rugged outcrop with sweeping views across the Pacific Ocean. Perfect at any time of day, but especially magical at sunrise or sunset. If you have a proper camera, bring it with you. This is one of the most photographed spots in the Wairarapa.

Deliverance Cove Track

1-2 hours return

For those wanting a bit more adventure, the Deliverance Cove Track is a stunning loop featuring lagoon views and plenty of spots to pause and enjoy the scenery. The track climbs gently up towards Castle Rock, rewarding walkers with one of the region’s most breathtaking vistas. On a clear day, you’ll see the reef, lagoon, lighthouse, and endless coastline stretched out below.

Tinui Anzac Walkway

2.5–3 hours return

About 20 minutes inland from Castlepoint, the historic Tinui ANZAC Walkway is a local favourite and well worth the short drive. The track takes you to the Tinui Cross, believed to be one of the first ANZAC memorials in the world. Bring your walking shoes. The climb is steady but well worth the effort for the views and the history. After your walk, the Tinui Café and Bar is the perfect spot to refuel.

Whareama Coastal Walk

A highlight of the region, the Whareama Coastal Walk is a popular multi-day hiking experience that gives you a chance to truly unplug. Set along the rugged Wairarapa coastline, this guided or self-guided walk offers spectacular ocean views, farmland scenery, and peaceful accommodation at the end of each day. It’s an incredible way to immerse yourself in the natural beauty that surrounds Castlepoint. Perfect for keen hikers or anyone wanting an unforgettable coastal adventure.
